The Kennedy Chess Club welcomes all students, regardless of ability level, who have an interest in chess and checkers . . . and Mastermind plus a few others. Games are played in both Advisory periods. Most matches consist of students who just show up and find themselves an opponent for a pick-up game. The club hosts three tournaments throughout the year. One of these tournaments is a double-elimination, untimed tourney. In addition there is a speed-chess tourney that puts all entrants on a ten-minute clock. Finally, there is a ladies tournament. Girls may enter all tournaments and are encouraged to do so. For students who wish to learn, the club will teach them in a friendly, comfortable manner. News of the chess world and the St. Louis chess scene is provided to those interested. The atmosphere is a relaxed one, and the chess boards in West Hall 11 have become a popular destination during advisory.
