The theme of the Freshman Day of Prayer is 'Building Up the Body of Christ'. Freshmen participate in a variety of team-building activities, as well as prayer activities directed at helping them understand their identity as a member of the Kennedy community, and as an integral and necessary part of their class.
The theme of the Sophomore Day of Prayer is 'Finding Common Ground and Celebrating Sacred Ground'. Sophomores further discuss their identity in the context of the Kennedy community. Emphasis is placed on seeing the talent in each member of the class, and creating connections that transcend the students' usual circle of friends. An emphasis is placed on the idea that, when this common ground is discovered, it is 'sacred' because it reflects God's plan for us.
The theme of the Junior Day of Prayer and Awareness is 'The Church Building the Kingdom of God'. Juniors are given four different itineraries to choose from: each itinerary has an emphasis on how the People of God are responding to the needs of people (the homeless, small children, etc.). Juniors visit two sites, which are faith-based in the Catholic tradition, that are working with people to make a difference in their lives and in the life of the community. This day is meant to give juniors an awareness of some of the options available for their Christian Service Apprenticeship.
Seniors have a choice between two overnight retreat options.
1) At the Marianist Apostolic Center (MAC), the center's retreat team directs a 2-day (one night) retreat, with an emphasis on personal growth, unity with classmates, and working on a deeper relationship with God.
2) The Kairos retreat, which is a peer-led, 3 day (two night) retreat, centered around 'finding God in all things'. The Kairos retreat is based on the spirituality of St. Ignatius Loyola. It focuses on loving Christ and others in a more fulfilling way by helping students discover how God communicates directly with them, examining the way God speaks to them through relationships, joys, desires, disappointments and all other life experiences.
