The Theatre Program is a very vibrant part of the Kennedy community. More than one-quarter of the student body participates in a theatrical production each year. Students interested in the dramatic arts can join the Drama Club and become a cast or crew member of the Fall Play or the Spring Musical.

The fall play and the spring musical are important events for the Kennedy Community. Over one-fourth of the student body participates in these highly regarded productions. At Kennedy plays and musicals, you will find only students backstage during the performances working as stage managers, crew, sound, and light technicians. In addition, students build the sets and props for the Kennedy plays. Past plays featured student-built sets that have included a working elevator and rotating stages.

Kennedy productions are a great experience in teamwork and in team building. During the rehearsal process, students meet twice weekly to build and paint the intricate sets. Under the supervision of Jac Slivka, an experienced set designer and builder, students learn the art of set design, construction and painting.
Whether it is performing on stage, running the sound board or managing a backstage crew, Kennedy offers exciting opportunities in the dramatic arts!

The theatre program is truly a family tradition at Kennedy. Jac and Susan Slivka began their involvement with Kennedy musical productions 20 years ago when their children, KC and Michael, were Kennedy students. In the beginning, Susan directed theactors and Jac directed the set building, lighting, sound, and crew. Today, KC Slivka-Creely is the drama teacher at Kennedy, directs the fall play, and works with her parents as she choreographs the spring musical.
The Jac Slivka Scholarship and the Susan L. Slivka Scholarship have been establsied for an incoming freshman male and female who want to become involved with the Kennedy theatre program. Application information is available under Financial Aid/Scholarships.
